Our History
Fukuoka EFC was started in 1994. In 2004 Doug and Cheryl Conrad came to Fukuoka and worked with Pastor Miyauchi to start a church plant in Meinohama in 2006. Though not part of their original plan, over time an English Sunday evening service for internationals developed. Duane Dietze joined the Conrads in January 2009, but the Conrads returned to the U.S. the summer of 2010. Though they hope to return to Japan in the future, it will likely be several years. Outreach to the Japanese takes place through a Japansese Bible study (“Oasis”), English conversation classes, cooking classes, and special events. The vision is to have a church with both Japanese-speaking and English-speaking congregations working together to reach the international and Japanese communities in Fukuoka and the Meinohama area in particular.
Our Staff
Hello, my name is Duane Dietze. Before I came to work at MCC in January 2009, I was on staff at nearby Itoshima EFC from 2002 to 2006. I'm from Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA and have been in Japan since August 1986. After committing my life to Christ during college, I earned my MDiv/Missions degree at Trinity Evangelical Divinity School in Deerfield, IL. I participated in a summer missions program to France through IVCF and to Japan and Korea through TEDS before joining EFCA ReachGlobal as a full-time missionary. After studying Japanese in Milwaukee and Tokyo, I served in church plants in Nagoya, Kyoto, Ueda (Nagano Pref.), and Itoshima before coming to MCC. This is the first time I have been part of a ministry to internationals in Japan in addition to outreach to the Japanese.
Reach Global
Our mission statement, we exist to glorify God by multiplying healthy churches among all people, drives our vision for the future of the EFCA. We envision accelerated growth in the number of Christ’s disciples and churches and the percentage of ethnic groups represented in the EFCA. We are committed to an EFCA that mirrors the demographics of the U.S., and reflects the "all people" God is redeeming.
